Rekai Tangwena Children’s Home has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 2002. The home was founded by the late Bishop Livingstone Nerwande of Holy Cross Fellowship Church in Nyanga, Zimbabwe. Bishop Nerwande, being a leader in the church, was approached by numerous individuals seeking help, including orphans, child-headed families, and widows. With a compassionate heart, he initially accommodated many children in his own home.

As the number of children seeking assistance continued to grow, Bishop Nerwande recognized the need for a more structured and permanent solution. He approached the Department of Social Development, seeking assistance in caring for these vulnerable children. Discussions with stakeholders led to the allocation of a piece of land where the children’s home was built.

In 2006, Rekai Tangwena Children’s Home was officially registered with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare under section 31 of the Children’s Protection and Adoption Act (Chapter 33). The home’s mission is to reach out to less privileged children, providing them with parental care, love, and the necessary skills to create lasting positive change in their lives.

Since its inception, Rekai Tangwena Children’s Home has been dedicated to facilitating and providing a range of childcare services to less privileged and vulnerable children from the Nyanga District. These services include residential care, education, healthcare, nutrition, and clothing.

Over the years, the home has remained committed to its mission, ensuring that vulnerable children in the community have a safe haven and access to essential resources. Rekai Tangwena Children’s Home continues to make a significant impact by transforming the lives of disadvantaged children and offering them a chance for a brighter future.
